Vantrix Launches Media Controller and Announces Multiple Commercial Deployments

SAN DIEGO and MONTREAL, Nov. 13 2008 – Vantrix, the leading provider of content adaptation and optimization solutions for converged wireless, broadband and cable networks today announced the launch of its new product offering, Media Controller and its implementation at several prominent network operators and mobile entertainment companies. These deployments, which have taken place in KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait, and the US, have already brought significant OPEX and CAPEX savings to Vantrix customers.

Vantrix Media Controller is a policy enforcement point for multimedia content and services. It allows wireless, broadband, and cable operators to enforce rules and policies on multimedia traffic. It is designed to increase operators' revenue by facilitating the launch and introduction of services such as mobile advertising as well as extending support for iPhone devices by providing a means to interface with Multimedia Messaging (MMS). It can also help operators ensure the integrity of their networks by providing a set of mechanisms to prevent malware and other types of malicious or unsolicited multimedia content from reaching subscribers.

"In order for network operators to introduce innovative services and business models such as mobile advertising they need a solution that is able to manage multimedia traffic efficiently," said Patrick Lopez, Chief Marketing Officer for Vantrix. "Media Controller is an effective way for operators to offer subscribers a level of security and control, while still introducing revenue-driving applications and solutions including mobile advertising."

Media Controller is an integral component of the company's core software platform, Mediadvance, on which all Vantrix products and solutions are built. This approach provides Vantrix customers with a single point for the management, provisioning and administration of all their multimedia services. Network operators benefit by being better able to deliver more multimedia content including MMS, Music, Videos, Mobile TV, Web TV, Cable TV and User Generated Content.

Vantrix Media Controller key features include:

Anti-Spam

Featuring advanced heuristics algorithms, Vantrix Media Controller is designed to protect subscribers from abuse by blocking unsolicited MMS messages.

Content Filtering

By inspecting content for suspicious extensions, Vantrix Media Controller is able to filter MMS that may be unsuitable for the intended recipient, based on configurable attributes such as content type, size, origin and/or destination.

Anti-Virus

Vantrix Media Controller protects the network from harmful traffic by filtering out self replicating virus-infected multimedia messages.

Advertising Insertion

Vantrix Media Controller enriches content by dynamically inserting customized banners, animations, slides, text, audio and video into multimedia messages, Video on Demand or Mobile TV and radio services.

MMS 2 Email

Vantrix Media Controller allows network operators to seamlessly bridge the gap between Multimedia Messaging and wireless email users. As more and more devices are introduced in the market, it is important for network operators to be able to enable communities to communicate seamlessly. For instance, MMS 2 email allows iPhone users to exchange Multimedia Messages with the rest of the wireless community.

Nortel Blurs the Boundaries Between TV and Interactive Applications at TelcoTV ‘08

Nov 12, 2008
Nortel Blurs the Boundaries Between TV and Interactive Applications at TelcoTV ‘08

Nortel IPTV Solutions Converge Entertainment with Communications to Create Personalized Video Applications

NOVEMBER 12, 2008 ANAHEIM – Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] is showcasing IPTV and Video solutions that are blurring the boundaries across TV, Internet, consumer devices and mobile phones by integrating services like text messaging, VoIP, media sharing, and interactive applications into the entertainment experience. Nortel is demonstrating these capabilities at TelcoTV 2008 ** from November 11 to 13.

Nortel's video solutions make it possible for service providers to blend the applications and communications capabilities of computers and mobile devices with TV programming to enhance the entertainment experience. This allows interactive and multimedia Internet applications like text messaging, photo and video sharing, as well as VoIP, to be easily accessed while viewing TV or video on demand. For example, sports enthusiasts can text friendly rivals right from their TVs during a big game. Or, consumers can order a new product directly from an ad on their TV with a simple click of the remote control connecting them with the sellers through VoIP or text messaging. Nortel's IPTV solutions also allow users to take TV content out of the house to be viewed on a mobile phone or laptop.

"Nortel's video solutions can take service providers beyond bundling of services to true convergence of entertainment and interactive applications," said Sameer Sheth, general manager, Video Solutions, Nortel. "Nortel allows service providers to create a more personalized and convenient user experience for their subscribers where any device can be used for a multitude of functions. For example, a TV, computer or mobile phone can be used to watch video on demand from a single account. A TV can be used to order a pizza, buy tickets to an event, or share photos with friends."

Nortel's IPTV solutions will be used to bring enhanced entertainment to subscribers by such customers as Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks **, a telecom service provider in West Virginia; BIT **, a service provider in Virginia; and Yadkin Valley Telecom **, an operator serving over 30,000 households in North Carolina. Both Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks and BIT will deploy Nortel's Communications Module 9520 to bring new interactive applications such as click-to-call, text messaging and picture sharing to their television subscribers. Yadkin Valley Telecom is implementing Nortel's pre-integrated IPTV Solution to provide a secure, reliable, scaleable high-definition entertainment service.

In this era of Hyperconnectivity where any device or application that should be connected to the network is being connected, Nortel's video solutions give service

providers the ability to leverage a multitude of different devices - TV, Blu-ray ** player, computer, mobile phone - in an open environment to create new services and applications designed to generate additional revenues from their network investment. But offering these new interactive applications on many devices can lead to an explosion in bandwidth demand on networks as well.

To help service providers meet this demand, Nortel's Ethernet Access solution based on WDM PON technology provides dedicated, super-fast, secure, and reliable optical bandwidth starting with speeds of 100 Mbps and easily scalable as services grow on a foundational infrastructure. At Telco TV Nortel will demonstrate the delivery of IPTV, VoIP , and data services over Ethernet Access based on WDM-PON, including simple network management and recovery of services.

Here are other IPTV and video applications Nortel is demonstrating in booth #401 at TelcoTV 2008 in Anaheim, CA:

TV widgets - a TV interface that users can personalize, much like they would on a computer, displaying content such as the latest news, weather, sports schedules, and video on the TV screen. Convergence of consumer electronics with entertainment, providing the ability to perform interactive two-way multimedia communication between a mobile device and an Internet connected BD-Live ** Blu-ray player. With this capability, consumers can receive photos on a Blu-ray player and make a click-to-call back to the sender. Single subscription video services that allow a subscriber to order video on demand from a set top box and then watch it on other devices, such as a TV (with set top box), mobile phone or laptop. Interactive TV advertising that puts merchandise only a "click-to-call" or "click-to-purchase" away A network based digital vault that can be accessed from anywhere, allowing users to share and store pictures and personal videos from mobile to PC and vice versa.

These demonstrations are testament to Nortel's strength in delivering applications that allow service providers to innovate and monetize personalized video applications, leverage existing network investment and enhance consumers' experiences. Nortel's video solutions enable and leverage an open Video Services Platform that is part of the company's Agile Communications Environment , promoting third-party application development.

Nortel is working with companies at the forefront of consumer electronics to help service providers' extend the reach of communications applications to consumer electronics by developing advanced application convergence opportunities with BD-Live capable Blu-ray players. The companies include RCDb **, a leading developer of network services and software for Blu-ray discs and devices and Vantrix **, a leading provider of content adaptation and optimization solutions for converged wireless, broadband and cable networks.

Nortel experts will be contributing to two panel sessions at Telco TV:

Peter Ashton, Nortel IPTV Product Marketing, will speak at a panel session in the Consumer Experience track called Integrating the Social Network Experience: Fad or Reality? on November 12, 4:30 to 5:30 PM Richard Brand, Nortel Video Solutions and vice-chair of ATIS ** IPTV Interoperability Forum, will moderate a panel session in the Evolve with Technology track called Set Top Box Evolution: Gateway to the Home? on November 13, 2:15 to 3:15 PM.

Velti and Vantrix Make Video Advertising Available on Mobile Devices

Velti and Vantrix Make Video Advertising Available on Mobile Devices

LONDON and MONTREAL, May 19, 2008 – Velti, a leader in mobile advertising services, announced today that it has partnered with Vantrix, a mobile content delivery company, to support a universal video advertising platform. Armed with the Vantrix Media Broadcaster device detection and video optimisation technology, Velti can stream or provide on demand ad-supported video content on mobile internet sites to a vast array of mobile devices. The new feature helps advertisers to communicate more effectively with mobile users.

The video Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) platform supports many forms of video advertisements that integrate seamlessly with the mobile user's existing device and service provider's network. With Vantrix Media Broadcaster's highly advanced technology, advertising can be inserted in real time alongside streamed and downloadable video content, optimised based on each mobile device's technical capabilities and the network conditions, and targeted contextually based on the content viewed by the user. This functionality gives advertisers the ability to make sure that their messages reach relevant audiences and are delivered with unprecedented quality.

"With over 3 billion mobile users globally, the adoption of mobile media and advertising continues to be a catalyst of growth in our industry," said Alex Moukas, CEO of Velti. "As new devices are introduced each day it is increasingly important to reach your target market, regardless of which gadget or service provider they use. With the help of Vantrix to detect any device and adapt the video content for each specific phone and network conditions, Velti is able to provide a technology agnostic mobile advertising platform with high-quality video content."

Allan Benchetrit, President & CEO of Vantrix said, "Utilizing video content for mobile devices has been difficult for advertisers to negotiate, as many have been sceptical that their message will reach its target market with significant volume. Vantrix Media Broadcaster was launched to guarantee that video content will be easily accessible to mobile users, taking the guess work out of the equation. Together with the Velti network, this new platform gives advertisers, mobile operators and media groups the best tools to deliver their message to any device anywhere in the world."

Mobile users who subscribe to video services delivered by Velti's enhanced Mobile Marketing Platform (MMP) are asked to provide basic personal data such as gender, date of birth, area of residence and range of income the first time they sign up. This information, combined with additional behavioural and contextual data managed and updated by Velti's Personalization Engine, as well as device, carrier and network performance characteristics provided by Vantrix, is used to target consumers with advertising that's relevant to them. Mobile users can then use the service on most networks for free and view video clips as often as they like. Brand advertisers will bear the cost of the service, so users can enjoy high quality video on their mobile phones, complete with targeted ad content.

ABOUT VELTI

Velti's market-leading mobile marketing technology platform, coupled with its experience in the mobile advertising industry, enables clients around the world to deliver an extensive range of highly targeted marketing campaigns. With operations in 16 countries, Velti has implemented projects reaching an estimated 570 million consumers.

Vantrix Teams Up with Tier 1 Mobile Operator in Europe to Launch the World's Most Advanced Mobile TV Service

Apr 24, 2008
Vantrix Teams Up with Tier 1 Mobile Operator in Europe to Launch the World's Most Advanced Mobile TV Service

Montreal – April 24th, 2008 – Vantrix, a leading provider of mobile content delivery solutions, announced today that it has been selected by a tier one European mobile operator to launch a mobile TV service of unprecedented quality.

This mobile TV service was commercially launched in February 2007 on a broad range of handsets via the operator’s own mobile Internet portal, and features a selection of favorite TV networks. Over the coming weeks, a premium version of the service will become available on many high-end devices through an interactive application and electronic programming guide that will greatly facilitate navigation. The programming line-up will be expanded to include additional TV channels, several radio channels, a dedicated channel featuring user generated videoclips, and access to live feeds from traffic cameras to assist drivers. This mobile TV service is powered by Vantrix Media Broadcaster, an end-to-end video streaming and delivery platform from Vantrix.

Daniel Torras, VP of Marketing and Product Strategy at Vantrix, outlined the company’s strategy with regards to mobile TV: “Our goal was to offer the most compelling mobile TV user experience to the largest possible number of users of this mobile operator. By delivering this new service via WAP as well as through a custom handset application, we are making sure that anyone can watch TV on their phone, regardless of the type of phone they have.”

Vantrix Media Broadcaster features an integrated streaming and transcoding engine that provides previously unattainable levels of scalability and monetization opportunities. By manipulating the video feeds as these are streamed, Vantrix Media Broadcaster can support thousands of simultaneous user connections to the same TV channel while accounting for a large variety of handset technical specifications, such as the streaming protocols, screen sizes, video codecs and formats from a single source feed. It can also dynamically insert and target many types of advertising, from video mid-rolls to graphic overlays.

Allan Benchetrit, President and CEO of Vantrix, described some of the technology breakthroughs that make this mobile TV service unique: “With this mobile TV service, we wanted to replicate the home TV experience that consumers are familiar with. Vantrix Media Broadcaster’s fast channel switching, for example, allows users to browse through TV channels quickly and easily, just like they do at home with their remote control. In addition, our dynamic bitrate adaptation technology ensures that there is no degradation in the video quality as users move to and from areas with different network capacity and congestion. Our partnership with this operator marks an important milestone in the European mobile TV landscape, and with mobile video in general.”

Meffys Mobile Entertainment Awards Recognizes Vantrix and The Weather Channel as Shortlisted Finalist for TV & Video Service Award

Mobile Entertainment Awards acknowledges Vantrix and The Weather Channel Interactive for their ad-supported mobile video weather forecasts

NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 23, 2008 – The Mobile Entertainment Forum announced last week that Vantrix and The Weather Channel Interactive have been shortlisted for the Meffys Awards’ TV & Video Service Award. Vantrix, a leading provider of mobile video solutions, debuted their mobile video weather updates with The Weather Channel last October and the videos have been garnering positive attention ever since.

The mobile video service, which is available through The Weather Channel mobile Web site, allows wireless users who visit weather.com on virtually any video-enabled handset to watch weather reports for 100 different US cities updated every 30 minutes, along with regional and national video forecasts, travel weather reports and weather-related news stories. With the use of industry-leading technology developed by Vantrix, the service can ensure that anyone with a multimedia-capable phone can access the content and have a video experience that is optimized for their specific phone without the need to download any additional software. Additionally, because this is an ad-supported service, it is provided free of charge to consumers.

“We are honored to be selected as one of the finalists for the Meffys,” said Daniel Torras, VP of Marketing & Product Strategy for Vantrix.  “This recognition validates our goal of educating consumers about the potential of today’s mobile phones as a media distribution channel and the role of advertising to subsidize mobile content services. We are convinced that initiatives like this will further stimulate the adoption of mobile media.”

The Meffys Mobile Entertainment Awards, considered the industry’s most coveted prizes, received submissions from more than 20 countries spanning four continents.  Now in their fifth year, the awards are independently judged by national media and leading trade journalists and analysts, including Analysys, Billboard, CCS Insight, Daily Telegraph, DN Capital, Frukt, GoMo News, The Guardian, IDC, Informa, iGizmo, Independent, M:Metrics, Media Week, MobiAdNews, Marketing, Marketing Week, Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Marketing, MusicAlly, NMA, Ovum, PocketGamer, Record of the Day, Strategy Analytics, Strategy Eye, Sunday Times, T3 and Trusted Reviews.

"This year’s shortlist provides an excellent snapshot of this cutting-edge industry and insight into what we can expect in the near future,” said Rimma Perelmuter, MEF Executive Director. “The 2008 Meffy nominees focused on providing analytics, addressing usability concerns and tackling merchandising and pricing issues, which all goes to prove that the mobile entertainment industry is maturing.”

Las Vegas, March 31, 2008 – You stay classy, Las Vegas! Attendees of this year's CTIA Wireless can now practice and act out their own version of a stormtracker as Vantrix and The Weather Channel Interactive are teaming up to host a green wall set at the Vantrix booth (#6935), where show attendees will be able to get in front of the camera, dictate the day's weather alongside Jim Cantore and receive their broadcast debut on their mobile phone within minutes.  Vantrix and The Weather Channel's fun foray into weather news star-making comes hot on the heels of the successful mobile video Web site from The Weather Channel that was recently unveiled.

This site will feature daily video highlights of the show, video weather forecasts for Las Vegas updated every 30 minutes, courtesy of The Weather Channel Interactive, and a live camera feed to give attendees a chance to check out CTIA's technology fashion show, Fashion in Motion. To access Vantrix’s CTIA mobile portal, go to ctia.vantrix.com on your phone’s browser, or simply text “CTIA” to 23333, and you will receive a message back with a link to the portal.

“Our mobile video show highlights and weather forecasts were a huge success at CTIA last October,” said Daniel Torras, VP Marketing & Product Strategy for Vantrix. “CTIA is an extremely important event in the wireless community and we are honored to help bring aspects of the show together, most especially by including show attendees as the future weather reporters of America.” As the Presenting Sponsor of Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live!, Vantrix is also providing attendees with access to the first event of CTIA. Mobile Entertainment Live! will feature celebrity Q&A with rap pioneer Chuck D, the legendary Ray Manzarek of The Doors, entertainment icon Quincy Jones and Matchbox Twenty’s Paul Doucette, as well as a state-of-the-industry debate and keynotes from CTIA Wireless, Microsoft, Yahoo! Mobile, Sprint Nextel, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone Group Plc. Additionally, Daniel Torras, VP Marketing & Product Strategy for Vantrix, will be giving the opening remarks for the show for the second time in a row.

MoPhap and Vantrix Launch Dynamic Mobile Video Advertising Platform

Montreal, Nov 12, 2007 – MoPhap and Vantrix announced today the launch of their dynamic mobile video ad insertion platform, leveraging MoPhap’s SparkMobile ad serving and campaign management tool and the Vantrix Ad Booster advertising insertion and optimization platform. Through this initiative, mobile content providers will be able to insert highly targeted ads in real time within streaming and downloadable mobile video content, and optimize their delivery based on the capabilities of each user’s phone. Advertising formats include pre, mid and post-rolls, as well as watermarks and logos.

In order to ensure broad consumer appeal, MoPhap and Vantrix will target wireless users with relevant video ads based on behavioral and psychographic information compiled by MoPhap, complemented with additional device, carrier and network characteristics gathered by Vantrix. Publishers will be able to manage their ad campaigns and achieve unprecedented levels of flexibility and response rates.

“Earlier this year, we partnered with Vantrix to deliver optimized display ads on mobile phones,” said Bob Walczak, founder and CEO of MoPhap. “The natural next step for us is mobile video advertising. Using MoPhap’s proprietary server-side cookie technology, MoPhap can target ads more effectively for its mobile video advertisers both contextually and behaviorally. With Vantrix, we can now stitch ads to video content in real time, which provides enormous value to our content provider and advertiser partners.”

Daniel Torras, VP Marketing & Product Strategy of Vantrix, commented, “The global mobile advertising market will grow ten-fold in the next four years to exceed $10B, fueled by the ubiquity of cell phones and the ability to deliver highly personalized advertising messages,” Torras continued. “By replicating the ad-supported content distribution models that consumers are already familiar with on TV and online, mobile operators and media brands will maximize the reach of their mobile video offerings and the revenue opportunity. We already work with many of the leading carriers and content providers to video-enable their mobile Internet sites. Our partnership with MoPhap enhances our service offering by providing an additional tool to them to monetize these sites, and marks an important milestone in the mobile market.”

CTIA and U2's The Edge Rally Global Audience to Demonstrate Enormous Potential of Mobile Video Messaging

CTIA and U2's The Edge Rally Global Audience to Demonstrate Enormous Potential of Mobile Video Messaging

CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment® 2007, taking place this week at San Francisco’s Moscone Center, is embarking on a common short code (CSC) campaign designed to start a mobile video revolution. CTIA attendees will receive an exclusive video and downloadable ringtone from U2's The Edge via mobile phone text messaging this morning.

Music videos, song tracks and ringtones are among the most popular multimedia content sold on mobile devices today. To further demonstrate the lure, legendary musician The Edge, from the band U2, has produced an exclusive video for CTIA‘s CSC campaign. He has also recorded an exclusive ringtone that can be downloaded after watching the video and passed along to others, at no charge.

“It's not that people don’t want to watch video on their device—they simply don’t know their device is capable,” said Robert Mesirow, vice president of business operations and show director for CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment. “By spreading the word at the industry’s leading wireless and technology gathering, we have the opportunity to educate a massive audience about the availability of mobile video. This, combined with our ability to offer content from a rock icon like The Edge, could potentially make this the most watched mobile video in history.”

In an effort to bring mobile video to the forefront of the consumer’s wireless experience, CTIA has enlisted the help of Vantrix to adapt this exclusive video message to optimally suit virtually every video-capable wireless device on the market. Consumers will text “CTIA” to 23333 to find out if their mobile devices can receive video and get the CTIA-exclusive video and ringtone from The Edge.

“There are over 80 million wireless users in the U.S. with video-capable phones, but less than 10 percent of them use their phone to watch any type of video,” said Manish Jha, CEO of Vantrix. “Through this joint initiative with CTIA, we seek to educate consumers about the power of mobile phones as media players and the different ways to find video and music on the mobile Internet. We are delighted to work with CTIA to provide this engaging experience for wireless users.”

Consumers unable to access the video via the short code on their handsets are invited to obtain the ringtone by visiting www.vantrix.com/CTIA and entering their cell phone number.

Vantrix Secures $12 Million in Series B Funding

Vantrix Corporation ( www.vantrix.com), a leading provider of mobile multimedia adaptation and delivery solutions, today announced that it has secured USD $12 million in Series B financing, led by Chicago-based JK&B Capital. Existing investors Summerhill Venture Partners (the venture arm of Bell Canada Enterprises), Entrepia Ventures, BDC Venture Capital, and Innovacom (the venture arm of France Telecom), have also participated in this round. Vantrix will use the proceeds from the Series B round to expand the company’s operations globally and to invest in infrastructure and R&D to support the company’s rapidly growing customer base.

“Media companies and wireless operators face two types of problems when it comes to stimulating consumption of mobile content: device fragmentation and the lack of scalable business models,” said Ali Shadman, Partner at JK&B Capital, who has also joined Vantrix’s board of directors. “Vantrix possesses the intellectual property and vision to solve both problems and facilitate the mass market adoption of mobile media. Vantrix’s unique technology and strong management team makes a very powerful combination. We are excited to help Vantrix capitalize on the many opportunities ahead.”

Joe Catalfamo, Managing Director of Summerhill Venture Partners, added, “Vantrix’s market momentum is remarkable and continues to accelerate. Live video and audio streaming and delivery, video over WAP and cross-platform multimedia alerts are some of the applications that Vantrix powers and we believe the company is poised for very significant growth in the coming years.”

“We are proud to see our strategy validated by this new round of financing,” commented Manish Jha, CEO of Vantrix. “Delivering rich media on mobile phones should not be hindered by obstacles such as the fragmentation of devices, screen sizes, codec types, content formats, media player characteristics and network incompatibility issues. Vantrix helps content providers and carriers worldwide overcome these barriers to deliver ubiquitous and compelling new mobile services to consumers.”

In conjunction with the financing, Vantrix also announced the opening of a new sales and R&D office in Bangalore, and the expansion of its New York office.

CNBC Television Segment Urges Mobile Operators and Content Providers to "Make Significant Changes To Their Services" To Achieve Mass Market Demand, Citing Vantrix as Emerging Solution Provider

Vantrix, a leading solution provider of mobile media and marketing services, is being profiled today by CNBC Europe as a catalyst for mobile content. According to the segment, the mobile content market is growing at such a significant pace that the market will triple in size in the next few years. CNBC reporter Silvia Costa points out that this demand for mobile media content indicates the need for mobile operators and content providers to upgrade their services in order to benefit from this rapidly expanding market.

The interview profiles Vantrix as a leading provider of mobile media software and services and a major player in the mobile media content market. CNBC’s Costa notes that Vantrix enables real-time, seamless delivery of any type of rich media content, including video, audio, and images. In the profile, Vantrix President and CTO, Jean Mayrand explains that Vantrix allows sophisticated mobile media content such as Internet video, video alerts, live television, and radio to be accessible to all mobile phones, enabling users to access sporting events, news, and weather in real-time on their cell phones.

“The mobile content market is a massive global market, expected to reach over a $150 billion dollars in market value over the next several years,” according to Manish Jha, CEO of Vantrix. “And the fastest growing segments within the mobile content market are video and music and Vantrix is incredibly well-positioned to support those types of services.”

The documentary explains that through its mobile content optimization and advertising insertion engine, Vantrix provides solutions to many of the industry’s problems. These solutions allow Vantrix’s customers to increase revenue by expanding the distribution of their content to the greatest number of subscribers possible, regardless of their handset device or network, and monetize mobile media through a variety of premium and advertising supported business models.

“For mobile operators and for content providers, Vantrix solves the problem of the incompatibility between networks and devices and different types of software,” says Jha. “Through specific powerful technologies and stitching content and advertising together we help operators and content providers to reach the mass market of consumers.”

Motricity Partners with Vantrix to Enable Content Compatibility with Almost All Mobile Devices

Motricity Partners with Vantrix to Enable Content Compatibility with Almost All Mobile Devices

Motricity, a leading provider of mobile content services and solutions, has announced that its partnership with Vantrix, a leading solution provider of mobile media and marketing services, is enabling Motricity to satisfy rich media content adaptation requirements for the company’s content developer customers. Motricity utilizes the Vantrix award-winning SPOTxde Server solution to adapt its ringtones and wallpapers to fit almost any handset.

“We are delighted with our choice in Vantrix, an industry-proven partner, because we feel this is a significant extension of our managed service offerings to content developers,” said Chris Matherly, director of content operations, for Motricity. “It enables developers to focus on creating compelling content instead of having to worry about device compatibility because we do all of the handset profiling and testing with Vantrix’s platform.”

“This partnership also gives carriers the ability to get new media to market faster and create higher revenues while increasing the quality of their content”, said Matherly. Matherly continued saying that Motricity has already been using the Vantrix technology to optimize the delivery of quality content to Motricity’s carrier partners’ catalogues, so employing the new workflow automation tools is a natural extension.

Motricity’s use of the Vantrix SPOTxde Media Platform allows automated workflow processes to pre-adapt rich media files to hundreds – if not thousands -- of device profiles.

Thumbplay selects Vantrix for content optimization

Vantrix, the leading solution provider of mobile media services, announced today that Thumbplay (www.thumbplay.com), the leading online retailer of mobile entertainment content, has selected Vantrix for its rich media content adaptation requirements. Thumbplay will utilize the Vantrix SPOTxde Server solution to adapt its ringtones and wallpapers to fit any handset, and it is executed in real time for each piece of content that is requested.

Content providers use SPOTxde Server to pre-transcode their rich media files, thereby relieving them of the painstaking manual editing process to hundreds – if not thousands -- of devices. Back-end processes can be streamlined and greater adoption driven by having raw content downloaded directly by end-users. Moreover, with “on-the-fly” transcoding, a single piece of content can automatically be downloaded and optimized for any requesting device on any network.

“To have been selected by the leading company in yet another sector of the mobile content sector is an achievement we are very proud of,” said Manish Jha, CEO of Vantrix. “This is a great testament to the flexibility of our SPOTxde technology and its ability to fulfill the unique requirements of the most demanding mobile content experts.”

Thumbplay provides consumers with premium mobile entertainment products and services, including ringtones, wallpapers, games, text alerts and animations. Content can be purchased through both subscription and a la carte options, downloaded over the air directly to the consumer’s handset and billed directly to the consumer’s carrier bill.

“Thumbplay has become the leading provider of mobile entertainment content because of our dedication to providing the best user experience and broad selection of content,” said Are Traasdahl, founder and CEO of Thumbplay. “We selected the SPOTxde Server solution because of their proven track record in delivering optimal results.”

BEA Systems, IP Unity Glenayre, and Vantrix Join Nortel IMS Developer Program

Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] today announced new partners to its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Developer Program designed to accelerate interoperability and convergence across wireless, wireline and cable networks and to provide a more compelling communication experience for users, regardless of their network connection or device.

Nortel’s IMS Developer Program allows services providers to create and deploy new communication services quickly and cost effectively by providing an open testing and interoperability environment that utilizes web based tools to speed the delivery of new IP-based applications and services on a common infrastructure.

BEA Systems, IP Unity Glenayre, and Vantrix are three of the companies that recently joined Nortel’s IMS Developer Program. BEA Systems, Inc. Is working with Nortel to help network operators rapidly create and deliver enhanced multimedia and IMS-based converged services. BEA and Nortel have completed interoperability testing between Nortel’s IMS core and BEA WebLogic® SIP Server, one of the industry’s leading converged Java EE-IMS-SIP application server.

“Network operators are committed to building out a services layer to deliver next-generation IMS services and enhance revenue opportunities,” said Mike McHugh, vice president and general manager, BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, BEA Systems. “BEA WebLogic SIP Server, a powerful, converged Java EE-SIP-IMS application server, can help provide the foundation for the IMS services layer. We’re thrilled to be part of Nortel’s IMS Developer Program, which is designed to help network operators implement a robust IMS solution.”

In addition, Nortel and BEA are scheduled to conduct a live demonstration using a TeleVoting application from Ericpol at Nortel’s booth (#145 in Hall 8) at 3GSM World Congress, Feb. 12-15 in Barcelona. This demonstration is designed to show how to hold American Idol-style interactive voting competitions and invite target audience/consumers to submit votes via IP based video enabled devices. The demonstration includes BEA WebLogic SIP Server and Nortel’s IPTV, Web Services and IMS solutions.

“Nortel’s IMS Developer Program ignites network convergence and IMS adoption by providing an open testing environment featuring a complete network architecture with multiple applications and devices,” said Alf Decardenas, general manager, Converged Multimedia Networks, Nortel. “This will help fuel innovative communication services that will change the nature of communications while also helping to increase service provider competitive advantage and revenue opportunities - another example how Nortel's Business Made Simple approach benefits customers.”

BEA, IP Unity Glenayre and Vantrix all recently completed a series of interoperability tests with Nortel in the company’s advanced technology labs. IP Unity Glenayre, a leader in carrier–grade messaging and enhanced media services solutions, recently performed successful interoperability testing of its Mereon™ Media Server and Unified Messaging applications with BEA’s with BEA WebLogic SIP Server over Nortel’s IMS core infrastructure.

Vantrix, the forerunner in mobile rich media optimization, recently performed interoperability testing of its video surveillance application using its SPOTxde LIVE video gateway and BEA’s WebLogic SIP Server over Nortel’s IMS core infrastructure.

The Nortel IMS Developer program provides a complete end-to-end evaluation and interoperability testing environment with complete program tools and specifications for delivering next generation IP-based services and applications. It allows member developers that utilize industry-standard protocols, including 3GPP/3GPP2 IMS/MMD and TISPAN interfaces, and PacketCable Network-based Call Signaling (NCS) to work with Nortel for delivery of value-added services and applications to service providers. The Nortel IMS Developer program is an extension to the Nortel Carrier VoIP and Multimedia Business Partner Program.

Nortel has successfully completed more than 100 IMS interoperability tests/projects/trials with developers, customers and vendors across multiple different domains.
